BRITISH COMPANY BG is ending its sponsorship of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) two years into a nine-year agreement that was supposed to take the sport beyond the 2012 London Olympics, it was revealed today.

THE proposed World Cup series triathlon scheduled for London's Hyde Park in September on the course scheduled to be used for the 2012 Olympics has been cancelled, it was announced today.

June 9 - Canadian triathlete Simon Whitfield (pictured) has vowed to win a third Olympic medal in four Games at London 2012 despite losing his coach Joel Filliol to Britain.

SEPTEMBER 17 - TRIATHLON is to be given a a major shake-up in the build-up to the 2012 Olympics with the introduction of a new international Formula One-style World Championship circuit, it was announced today.

April 9 - Philippe Bertrand (pictured) has been chosen as the new head coach of Canada's triathlon squad for London 2012 after Joel Fillol left to oversee Britain's preparations.

MAY 7 - JOHN LUNT, the new competiton manager for the triathlon at London 2012, today launched a new elite series of events to be shown on Channel 4.

MAY 10 - BRITAIN'S Kirsty McWilliam (pictured) and Jonathan Brownlee showed their potential for London 2012 by finishing second and third respectively at the European Triathlon Championships in Lisbon today.

FEBRUARY 16 - TRIATHLON NEW ZEALAND has appointed Greg Fraine (pictured), a former Commonwealth Games silver medallist cyclist, as its new head coach to oversee preparations for London 2012.

DECEMBER 23 - SARAH SPRINGMAN (pictured), one of the pioneers of the sport, has been appointed as the inaugural president and chair of the Board of directors of the recently-established British Triathlon Federation (BTF), who have high hopes of success in London 2012.

OCTOBER 20 - GRAEME MAW (pictured) is to leave as the performance director of British Triathlon after six years only a few weeks after British triathletes won five world titles in eight days.

It is believed the split is acrimonious but no reasons are being given for his departure. But Maw's resignation follows the imposition of a three-month ban last month on the world champion, Tim Don, for missing three drugs tests.

The 42-year-old Maw joined British Triathlon in 2001 having previously been the high performance manager for swimming at the Queensland Academy of Sport in Australia.  A graduate of Loughborough University, Maw had studied exercise physiology in the USA and Australia.  He gained a PhD at the University of Wollongong and was a recognised sports scientist and performance analyst.

His programmes have been hugely successful in nurturing young talent through to world class performance with a number of 2012 hopefuls emerging from the programme this last two years including Will Clarke, Ollie Freeman, Alistair Brownlee, Helen Tucker, and Vanessa Raw.

“British Triathlon has a strong Olympic squad in place not just for Beijing 2008 Games but also for London 2012," said Maw. " After six years in post and after the successes of this year, I feel this is the appropriate time to step aside to allow a successor to work with the squad through to Beijing and then to build on this experience to London 2012."

Norman Brook  the chief executive of British Triathlon said: “Graeme has been instrumental in establishing a truly World Class performance pathway and coaching network for British Triathlon.  His work came to such emphatic fruition in sweeping the men’s titles at this year’s World Championships in Lausanne. This was the second time in his term that Britain could lay claim to the title of World’s best nation.”

SEPTEMBER 2 - BRITAIN'S Alistair Brownlee today won the gold medal in the junior race at the World Triathlon Championships in Lausanne. "I thought I might have a chance of a medal but I didn't expect this," he said.

SEPTEMBER 3 - BRITAIN'S remarkable weekend of success at the World Triathlon Championships in Lausanne continued today when Tim Don won the senior's men title and Will Clarke claimed gold in the under-23 event, making it a clean sweep for Britain's men.

SEPTEMBER 4 - SALFORD lost out on its bid to stage the World Triathlon Championships in 2010 when Budapest was chosen as the host city.
