The Norwegians completed a perfect start to the group stage with a 21-14, 21-13 victory over Dutch pair Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot at the Mexican city's bullring.

Mol and Sørum are also the Olympic champions having won gold at Tokyo 2020 and are looking to add to the world title they claimed in Rome last year.

Italians Daniele Lupo and Enrico Rossi also guaranteed a place in the next round from Pool A.

In Pool C, American debutants Andy Benesh and Miles Partain made it three wins from three by coming from behind to beat France's Youssef Krou and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat, 16-21, 21-15, 15-10.

"They were playing really well and I think we just stuck with it," Benesh said.

"Miles and I just trusted each other and tried to solve the puzzle as fast as we could. 

"They're a difficult team to solve and I'm just proud of how we stuck together and kept fighting.

"We have a couple of days off to rest and recover and are looking forward to competing hard in the playoffs."

Norwegians Hendrik Mol and Mathias Bertnsen joined them in the next round by finishing second in the pool.

There was American success in Pool D too as Theo Brunner and Trevor Crabb topped the pile, finishing on a record of two wins and a defeat after a 19-21, 21-19, 15-12 win over last year's bronze medallists Andre Loyola and George Wanderley.

This result sent the Brazilian pair out in last place as Ukrainians Sergiy Popov and Eduard Reznik went through in second spot.

In Pool E, Austrians Robin Seidl and Moritz Pristauz made it three from three by defeating Rubén Mora and Dany López of Nicaragua, 21-15, 21-11.

Italians Adrian Carambula and Alex Ranghieri bagged second place in the group to also advance.

So far, no pools have been completed in the women's competition but Brazil's reigning champions Eduarda "Duda" Lisboa and Ana Patrícia Ramos are assured of qualification after defeating Finland's Niina Ahtiainen and Taru Lahti-Liukkonen 21-14, 21-14 to secure a second win.

France's Lézana Placette and Alexia Richard have also won twice in the group after beating María Rivas and Chris Vorpahl of Chile 21-10, 21-13, so will also go through.

There are identical situations in Pool F, Pool G and Pool J where two teams have gone through with a game to spare.

In Pool F, Brazil's Bárbara Seixas and Carol Salgado and Germany’s Laura Ludwig and Louisa Lippmann booked their passage to the next round, with Switzerland's Nina Brunner and Tanja Hüberli and Latvia's Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova doing the same in Pool G.

Americans Betsi Flint and Julia Scoles are undefeated in Pool J, alongside Italians Marta Menegatti and Valentina Gottardi with both duos going through.

"It was a really tough match," Gottardi said after they defeated Austria's Klinger sisters, Ronja and Dorina, 21-9, 18-21, 15-10 at the bullring.

"I'm very happy that we managed to win it. 

"We're very pleased with the result and we hope we can do better tomorrow, in our last pool match."

American Olympic gold medallist Alix Klineman suffered defeat with new playing partner Hailey Harward, going down 21-17, 21-17 to Brazil's Tainá Silva Bigi and Victória Lopes, leaving their hopes in the balance at won one, lost one.

Pool play in both the men's and women's competitions are due to continue tomorrow, at four different venues.

As well as the top two from each pool, the four best third placed teams will also advance to the round of 32.

The remaining third placed teams will compete in a lucky loser round for the right to join them.
