According to the plan, the taekwondo team will train in Korea and then participate in international tournaments in Canada and the USA.

The team will then return to Vietnam to focus on the Olympic qualifiers, which will be held in China in March 2024.

Taekwondo is the sport that brought Vietnam its the first ever Olympic medal. Trần Hiếu Ngân won taekwondo silver in the women's -57 kg category at Sydney 2000. Since then, taekwondo has received a lot of investment, with many domestic and international training programmes, the hiring of Korean experts to train, and participation in major tournaments.

Now, the biggest hopes are pinned on 2017 World silver medallist Truong Thi Kim Tuyen, who will be competing at Tokyo 2020 and is looking for her second Olympic Games. She reached the quarter-finals in the women's -49kg category at the 2023 World Championships in Baku.
