Athletics Kenya (AK) has brought events on its calendar forward to allow enough time to prepare for next year's rearranged African Games.

Ghana was due to host the Games this year but the country's extreme debt and a dispute over marketing rights has pushed the multi-sport event into 2024.

Dates of March 8 to 23 next year have been set.

AK will now host the first leg of its track and field weekend series in Kisumu on December 1 and 2, mainly focussing on sprints and field events.

Thika will then host on December 15 and 16 before events in Embu, Nairobi, Kisii and Mombasa between January and March.

Kenya, a distance running powerhouse, will be hoping for a strong athletics showing at the African Games.

The country won 10 gold medals in the sport at the last edition in Morocco in 2019.
