The inaugural IWGA National Olympic Committees (NOC) and National Sports Organisations (NSO) Meeting in Madrid was held at the Spanish NOC headquarters and was attended by 28 NOC and NSO representatives.

"The cooperation between you and the World Games family has been improved and intensified in the last few years, but there are still more steps we can take in common in order to promote our athletes even better," said IWGA President José Perurena.

The focus of the meeting was on establishing closer cooperation in the build-up to the 12^th edition of the World Games.

The IWGA wants to convince stakeholders on the benefits of having athletes supported by their NOCs/NSOs for the event.

Birmingham 2022, the most recent edition of the World Games, saw 39 NOCs or NSOs take part which represented a 40 per cent increase from Wrocław 2017.

"On the road to Chengdu, it is important to understand the wishes and needs of the NOCs and NSOs better, and to take them into account when preparing for the Games," said IWGA chief executive Joachim Gossow.

"This also includes improved communication about which athletes from a country have qualified for TWG."

Perurena promised to take suggestions into account in the preparation of the upcoming Games.

In addition, contact with the NOCs and NSOs is intended to be intensified in the meantime.

Another workshop is set to be held in Chengdu next autumn where the IWGA and Games Organising Committee are due to inform national organisations on how they cane contribute to the success of their athletes.
