The European Judo Union (EJU) has claimed the European Week of Judo Values (EWJV) show how the sport "transcends borders and unites people from different regions".

Activities, workshops and judo sessions were held from September 23 until yesterday to mark EWJV, an event which seeks to promote judo values including playing for peace.

The Escola de Judo Nuno Delgado in Portugal's capital Lisbon, the GIB Sports Association in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana and the Rijeka Sports Association in Croatia each hosted events with the support of the EJU, Judo Federation of Slovenia, Judo Federation of Portugal and the Croatian Olympic Committee.

It was also backed by the European Union through its Erasmus+ programme, and aimed to increase awareness about the educational benefits of judo and contribute towards instilling judo values within society.

Participants in Slovenia, Portugal and Croatia all practised judo techniques on a live video streamed by the EJU.

The EJU has been pleased with the success of the event, and its education commissioner overseeing Erasmus+ projects Katja Rudaš said it was able to showcase the sport's values.

"The event showcased how judo transcends borders and unites people from different regions," she said.

"Witnessing participants from Ljubljana, Lisbon, and Rijeka embrace and embody the values of judo was a truly enchanting experience, with profound symbolic meaning.

"The values of judo radiated beyond the mats and influenced all aspects of the event, showcasing the holistic impact of these principles on individuals and societies."
