The home crowd cheered just as loudly for Chinese Taipei as they did China in a rousing set of 3x3 basketball finals here at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games before an athletics dispute broke out between India and the host nation on day eight of competition.

Chinese Taipei recovered from a woeful start to come back and win the men's 3x3 basketball gold medal.

They were losing 8-2 to favourites Qatar after three-and-a-half minutes before cutting the deficit to two points for much of the remainder.

The two sides traded blows until the last 45 seconds when Chinese Taipei prevented Qatar from making a single basket.

Scores from Chiang Chun and Lin Sin Kuan levelled it up before the latter came in clutch to convert two free throws with just moments remaining.

The crowd then erupted upon Hamad Mousa's missed two-point attempt which confirmed the victory.

China overpowered Mongolia for the women's 3x3 basketball title with a rousing 21-12 win that sent fans into ecstasy.

Wan Jiyuan led her side to glory with nine points and a player value of 13.9.

Mongolia and Japan were victorious in the men's and women's bronze medal matches as they recorded wins against South Korea and Chinese Taipei.

There was further success for China on a day where they recorded 18 gold medals to take their total to 133 for the Games.

Lin Yuwei's 12.74-second personal best propelled her to a first-place finish in the women's 100 metres hurdles on a successful day of athletics for the hosts. 

Her compatriot Wu Yanni controversially took the silver medal, 0.03 later, after she had a false start.

However, a review from technical officials spotted this after the race's conclusion and she was subsequently disqualified.

India's Jyothi Yarraji ultimately claimed second place after 12.91sec while Japan's Yumi Tanaka made up the podium in 13.04.

China also triumphed in the women's heptathlon as Zheng Ninali amassed an overall score of 6,149 points before Feng Bin led a women's discus one-two ahead of Jiang Zhichao with an Asian Games record score of 67.93m.

Wang Jianan wrapped up men's long jump gold with his first attempt of 8.22m.

Also in athletics, Bahraini world champion Winfred Yavi defended her Asian Games title in the women's 1500m with a commanding time of 4min 11.65sec while Qatar's Mohaamad Algarni was worthy of the men's title in the discipline after finishing in 3:38.36.

Hong Kong also caused a splash in today's action with Taichi Kho ending the men's individual golf tournament victorious, 27-under-par, while also helping his side to the team title.

The special administrative region then caused a major shock and eliminated four-time champions and world number 21 Iran from the men's football tournament.

Hong Kong, ranked 127 places below their opponents, beat the Iranians 1-0 in the quarter-finals thanks to a Pui Hin Poon goal in the 47th minute.

China experienced success in the pool with its second consecutive diving double as Cheng Yiwen and Chang Yani prevailed in the women's synchronised 3m springboard final while Yang Hao and Lian Junjie were victorious in the men's synchronised 10m platform.

Japan then suffered in the water polo to a dominant Chinese side that ran out as 24-11 winners to top the round-robin standings. 

A crushing defeat came for China in the women's badminton team gold medal match when they were humiliated 3-0 by South Korea.

It looked like it could happen again in the men's final as they fell to a 2-0 deficit to India before staging a superb comeback to win 3-2.

BMX racing experienced its only medals day and saw Indonesian Amellya Nur Sifa and Asuma Nakai of Japan take glory in the women's and men's races.

A double of one-two finishes were on the cards in the women's and men's 1,000m roller skating finals.

Chinese Taipei's Li Meng Chu and Liu Yi Hsuan took the women's gold and silver before South Koreans Choi Gwang-ho and Jung Cheol-won did the same in the men's.

China dominated the day's shooting with Zhang Xinqiu and Qi Ying winning women's and men's trap finals following a team trap-50 triumph.

World number one Sun Yingsha starred in the women's table tennis singles event, beating Japan's Hina Hayata 4-1.

The win followed her compatriots Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin dominating South Korean top seeds Jang Woo-jin and Lim Jong-hoon in the men's doubles decider.

After North Korea's dominance in yesterday's weightlifting, China got revenge with Olympic champion Chen Lijun ending victorious in the men's 67-kilograms competition with a 330kg total.

Prior to that, Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Li Fabin picked up the men's 61kg win.
