Organisers of the Accra 2023 African Games have presented a first draft of the transportation plan for the delayed multi-sport event.

Plans were outlined to the African Union's Technical Committee for the African Games by Accra 2023 head of transportation Samson Deen, who is also President of the African Paralympic Committee.

They cover transport for visitors upon arrival and departure from Ghana for the African Games, shuttles from the Athletes' Village to training and competition venues, appropriate vehicles for representatives including Chefs de Mission and separate measures for major events including the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Accra 2023 also wants to have spare vehicles for emergency situations, and implement pre-training for drivers on safety and stadium plans.

More than 13,000 visitors are expected to Ghana for the African Games, delayed until March 8 to 23 next year because of delays in preparations and economic pressures in the host nation.

"There will be a vehicle allocation for Games to ensure that transportation and movement of athletes and officials is very soon," Deen promised.

The Technical Committee for the African Games was established under an agreement between the African Union, Association of African National Olympic Committees and the Association of African Sports Confederation.

Disputes between the three bodies had hampered preparations for the Games.

Despite ongoing uncertainty over whether planned facilities will be ready in time, organisers have vowed the Games will be staged on their planned dates "without failure".
