President María Soto has led a delegation from the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV) to the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) headquarters in Lausanne, where they met with IOC President Thomas Bach.

Soto was joined by COV secretary general Katiuska Santaella and treasurer Franklin Cardillo on the visit to Olympic House in the Swiss city.

The Venezuelan trio toured Olympic House and were greeted by German official Bach, before staging meetings with IOC project manager for Olympic Solidarity's National Olympic Committee management section Angelica Castro and Eliane Brillard to outline their objectives and plans with the COV.

They learned about services for NOCs at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the use of IOC emblems and the IOC's The Olympic Partner programme, as well as the IOC's NOC extranet.

On the second day of their visit, the COV leadership were informed of Olympic Solidarity programmes for NOCs, and opportunities to receive support for Athletes' Commissions and coaches.

Bach and IOC director of NOC relations James Macleod also met with the COV delegation on its visit to Lausanne.

Soto became the first softball player to sign the Olympians Wall at Olympic House, and received an OLY certificate and pin from Bach.

Bach was presented with a Venezuelan cuatro, a musical instrument derived from the Spanish guitar.

Soto was elected as COV President in delayed elections last year, following an IOC warning that "free and fair" elections were required to avoid suspension with Eduardo Álvarez seeking re-election to a position he had held since 2006.

Venezuela enjoyed its most successful Olympic Games to date at Tokyo 2020, winning one gold and three silver medals.

All four medallists were reportedly obliged to thank Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro after their success.
