Britain finished their home International Canoe Federation (ICF) Canoe Slalom World Championships at Lee Valley with a kayak cross double from Joe Clarke and Kimberly Woods.

Woods contributed to a women's canoe team title at London 2012 Olympics venue the Lee Valley White Water Centre, and added kayak cross gold with victory in a close final.

She had failed to make yesterday's kayak final, but forced France's Camille Prigent to settle for silver and Eva Terčelj of Slovenia to finish with bronze.

Emma Vuitton of France was the other finalist, placing fourth.

Woods expressed her elation at bouncing back from yesterday's kayak final.

"I was really disappointed after my K1 racing yesterday, pretty heartbroken, and I came in to today still pretty broken, but now it’s just incredible, to be a world champion," she said.

"I felt pretty nervous as the runs went on.

"There was just a moment when I felt, this is awesome, just so happy to have been here."

Clarke added to his first-ever individual kayak gold at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships yesterday by earning a third consecutive men's kayak cross gold.

"A lot of the times that I’ve done well at kayak cross I’ve had disappointment in slalom, so you get fired up and ready to go," he said.

"I was shattered this morning when I woke up.

"I just thought right, let’s just go for it.

"It’s been a dreamy weekend for me, it doesn’t get any better than this."

Boris Neveu of France earned silver and Martin Dougoud of Switzerland bronze, with France's Benjamin Renia placing fourth in the final.

Kayak cross is set to make its Olympic debut at Paris 2024, but the World Championships did not have qualifying status.

Three quota places are available in the men's and women's events at the ICF Kayak Cross Global Qualification Competition in the Czech capital Prague in June, with the remaining berths taken by athletes qualified for canoe and kayak events.
