At a WADA Executive Committee meeting held in Shanghai, the body agreed to follow a recommendation from WADA's own Compliance Review Committee to judge the major event organisation as non-compliant with its Code.

WADA said it had judged Panam Sports as non-compliant due to a failure by the organisation to make “critical corrective actions to their anti-doping programme by an agreed deadline.”  

WADA said Panam Sports would lose its WADA privileges, meaning its representatives would be ineligible to hold any WADA office, while Panam Sports would also be ineligible to host any event either hosted or organised by WADA.

Panam Sports representatives would also be unable to participate in any WADA observer or outreach programmes, and Panam Sports would not receive any WADA funding relating to the development of activities or participation in programmes.

There would also be close supervision of the entire testing programme implemented by Panam Sports at its events, which could include the Pan American Games, due to be held in Santiago from October 20 to November 5, if Panam Sports is not reinstated to the list of compliant signatories by this date.

This could also be the case for the Parapan American Games, due to follow from November 17 to 26.

Elsewhere at the meeting WADA’s Executive Committee announced that the Russian Anti-Doping Agency remained non-compliant with the Code.

It also declared the national anti-doping organisations of Bermuda and South Africa non-compliant, and added the national anti-doping organisations of Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Mongolia, Morocco and the Philippines to its compliance watchlist.
