The United States beat neighbours Canada in straight sets claim gold in the 2023 Men's North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) Volleyball Championship.

The score in the final read 25-20, 25-14, 25-22 as the Americans claimed their first gold medal since 2017 and tenth title overall.

Rio 2016 bronze medallist Matt Anderson starred for the US with 16 points, two blocks and two aces in the final at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center along with compatriot Thomas Jaeschke who managed 12 points.

It was a flawless tournament for the Americans who triumphed undefeated.

"I thought we served the ball quite well and put a lot of pressure on them," United States head coach John Speraw said.

"Conversely, I think they are a team that can serve really well.

"They probably had more errors than they had on Saturday.

"But when they ripped it, we did a great job of passing.

"Besides the first few points of the first set when they got some aces, I thought we did a really good job of passing."

In the bronze medal game, Cuba got the better of the Dominican Republic 25-15, 25-14, 25-16.

Miguel Ángel López, who helped his nation win the tournament four years ago, stole the show in the final with 16 points.

Earlier, runners-up Canada topped Pool A and qualified for the semi-finals, where they defeated bronze medallists Cuba 18-25, 25-21, 25-17, 24-26, 15-13.

The United States topped Pool B before easing past Dominican Republic 25–22, 25–12, 25–14 in the other semi-final.

Cuba are the most successful nation in the history of the event with 16 titles followed by US in second with 10 and Canda third with one gold medal.

The next edition of the tournament is scheduled to be held in Mexico in 2025 with a city yet to be confirmed.
