The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is among a list of iconic college football venues in the United States set to be benefit from a caucus aimed at protecting them.

The Coliseum is set to play a major role during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028 and staged the Opening and Closing Ceremony at the 1932 and 1984 Olympics.

It is also the home of the USC Trojans, representing University of Southern California in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

In May this year, the Olympic Cauldron at the venue was lit to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its completion in 1923.

A group of bipartisan Congressmen led by Republican Party member Garret Graves from Louisiana's sixth congressional district and Democrat Mark Pocan from Wisconsin's second congressional district came up with strategies to preserve these facilities with some of them over 120 years old.

A total of 18 college football venues have agreed to take part in the caucus so far, including the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Yale Bowl, Beaver Stadium, and Camp Randall Stadium.

Security and safety enhancements, technological upgrades and ways to secure funds for improvements will be discussed during the conference.

"Historic stadiums like the Rose Bowl have been the backbone of American sports and entertainment for over a century, but their viability and continued operations are in jeopardy with the evolving landscape and expectations of modern-day sports and entertainment," said Jens Weiden, Rose Bowl chief executive, as quoted by Front Office Sports.

The Rose Bowl is another Los Angeles 2028 venue and is popular for hosting the 1994 FIFA World Cup Final.

It also staged the 1984 Olympic football gold medal match and is the home of the UCLA Bruins college football team.

"History is the soul of these stadiums," Weiden added.

"We believe the launch of the caucus will be a crucial step forward in protecting these iconic venues from being overshadowed."
