Syrian refugee athletes that have benefited from the work of the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) showcased their moves at a taekwondo demonstration team event in Jordan.

The Kukkiwon Demonstration Team from South Korea performed at the event hosted by Jordan Taekwondo Federation at the Princess Sumaya Hall in Amman.

A total of 25 Syrian athletes from both the Zaatari and Azraq refugee camps in Jordan participated in a performance at the Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship.

Azraq is home to the THF flagship academy, which teaches the sport to people who have fled the war in neighbouring Syria.

The refugee team and their families joined about 1,500 people to participate in the event in Amman.

Asif Sabah, the coach of the refugee demonstration team, said he was delighted to help his athletes to perform on a big stage, as reported by the Jordan Times.

The team featured Duaa Al Ayoub, who told the Jordan Times that the event gave her a sense of hope for the future.

Kim Dong-gi, South Korea’s ambassador to Jordan, said the demonstration team brought "a community of taekwondo beyond borders" and claimed that the performance by the Syrian refugee athletes sent a message of "indomitable spirit and hope through taekwondo".
