Bart Lambriex and Floris van de Werken of The Netherlands delivered home success at The Hague with victory in the 49er on a day where there was little action due to conditions at the Sailing World Championships.

The Dutch duo finished ninth in the medal race but it had no impact on the overall result as they were crowned world champions for the third successive time.

"It’s great to sail at home with the crowds coming out to cheer us on," said Lambriex.

"It was a big surprise on the last day of gold fleet racing when we suddenly had it sealed, we weren’t expecting that.

"Overall, we are very happy with our performance across the whole week."

Switzerland’s Sebastien Schneiter and Arno de Planta sealed silver after placing eighth in the medal race as Spain’s Diego Botin and Florian Trittel had to settle for bronze.

There was a first world title for Swedish pair Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler in the 49er FX.

Bobeck and Netzler were awarded gold after the medal race had to be cancelled because of a lack of wind.

It was an emotional triumph for Bobeck whose parents had flown to The Hague to watch her clinch the title.

"It’s a shame they couldn’t see us sail live but Rebecca’s family have been here for a couple of days cheering us on," said Bobeck.

"It’s amazing the support we have behind us.

"There’s a lot of people contributing to this.

"It’s still a bit weird not going sailing and getting the medal but we are so happy and now we can finally breathe."

Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz of The Netherlands came second, with Australians Olivia Price and Evie Haseldine bagging bronze.

Britain’s Emma Wilson and Italy’s Nicolo Renna look set to seal iQFOiL medals in the respective women’s and men’s competitions.

The conditions meant no racing could take place in the class today, allowing Renna to progress to the three-sailor final.

Germany’s Sebastian Kordel and Dutch sailor Luuc van Opzeeland are into the semi-finals.

Wilson remains the women’s leader and will compete in the final.

The semi-finals will include Shahar Tibi and Katy Spychakov of Israel.

Lauriane Nolot of France and Toni Vodišek of Slovenia lead the respective women’s and men’s Formula Kite competition after no racing was possible today.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow.
