Chile Sports Minister Jaime Pizarro has organised a meeting to discuss security at the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Para Pan American Games.

Harold Mayne-Nicholls, executive director of Santiago 2023; Antonia Illanes, Undersecretary of Sport; Israel Castro, director of the National Sports Institute and Constanza Martínez, Presidential delegate for the Metropolitan Region attended the meeting.

Representatives from Carabineros, investigative police, SENAPRED and Estadio Seguro were also present.

Almost 6,000 police officers are expected to be deployed on the streets and around competition venues.

Special focus will also be given to the areas surrounding the Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport.

A temporary police station inside the Athletes Village will be installed to ensure the safety of the athletes.

"We want to transmit security to the more than 300 thousand people who already purchased tickets," Mayne-Nicholls said.

"I want to thank the authorities, and especially SENAPRED, the Carabineros and the Investigative Police, because they have taken great care in presenting a very good security coverage.

"We want to transmit this security to the more than 300,000 people who have already purchased tickets and the more than one and a half million total attendees that the mega-event will have."

Pizarro expressed delight over the progress of security plans for the continental multi-sport event.

"Here we articulate a very significant and important part of what the Games will be," he said.
