Australia beat Chinese Taipei 5-0 as poor weather forced the other games to be cancelled on day four of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's Softball World Cup Group A in Balbriggan.

Britain, Botswana, the United States, and Ireland were all supposed to play today.

While the game between Australia and Chinese Taipei started on time, play was stopped after one inning due to heavy rain.

Aussies were leading 2-0 when play was halted thanks to Kylie Steemers and Jade Wall hitting ground balls.

A single from Stacy McManus helped Australia carry on the momentum when play finally resumed at half past six in the evening.

Clare Warwick and McManus then extended the lead to 5-0 for Australia after the third inning.

Britain and USA had won all three of their games so far meaning the cancellations did not affect their standings.

The tournament is set to continue tomorrow with the playoffs.

The winner of the playoff games will seal their sports at the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Finals in Italy next year.
