Britain's women and Ireland's men won the rugby seven tournaments at the European Games here, clinching qualification places for next year's Olympics in Paris.

Play on the final day was disrupted for an hour following an incredible incident in which the goalposts at one end of the venue became caught in branded tarpaulin covering the stand and were rendered out of use during the Britain against Belgium women's semi-final.

It took a team of more than 10 people, including firefighters, around 30 minutes to find a solution to free the posts, with play resuming a further half-an-hour later.

Britain went on to beat Belgium 36-12, while hosts Poland overcame the Czech Republic 29-7.

In the final, Britain proved too strong for the host nation, triumphing 33-0 helped by two tries from Emma Uren.

Britain advanced directly to Paris 2024, while Poland secured a place at next year's Final Olympic Qualifying Tournament, along with the Czech Republic, who beat Belgium 24-17 for bronze.

In the men's tournament, two huge rugby nations in Ireland and Britain played in the qualifier having finished eighth and ninth respectively on the World Rugby Sevens Series.

Ireland dominated their semi-final 24-0 against Portugal, while Britain came from behind to beat Spain 19-7.

In the final, Ireland were deserved 26-12 winners, helped by two tries from Jordan Conroy.

Rio 2016 silver medallists Britain have to win the 12-team repechage tournament as their last chance to qualify for Paris 2024, and are set to be joined in that event by Spain who dominated their bronze medal match against Portugal and triumphed 42-0.
