Obaid Al Anzi has been re-elected as President of the Asian Judo Union during the organisation’s General Assembly in Kuwait.

Following the re-election of Al Anzi of Kuwait, in the presence of International Judo Federation (IJF) President Marius Vizer, he remains as a vice-president of the IJF.

The Asian Judo Union also re-elected Mukesh Kumar of India as general secretary, and Amal Abu Shallak as general treasurer.

Also present for the Asian Judo Union’s General Assembly were IJF director general Vlad Marinescu, IJF vice-president and European Judo Union President Laslo Toth, and IJF world promotion director and American Judo and Jujitsu Federation President Yasuhiro Yamashita.

Vizer tweeted his congratulations to Al Anzi on his re-election saying: "We are honoured to have such a dedicated and passionate leader in our judo family, and we look forward to the progress and success that he will continue to bring to judo in Asia.

"Mr Obaid's commitment to upholding the values of judo, such as respect, friendship and discipline has been exemplary."

While in Kuwait for the Asian Judo Union General Assembly IJF President Vizer met with the Prime Minister of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who is also President of the World Police Sport Union.

The pair discussed the topics of sport and humanity, and how the two organisations could work together to promote peace and friendship throughout the world.
