The quarter-final line-up has been confirmed at the International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship in Brampton, following the end of group play at CAA Centre.

In Group A, Czech Republic edged past Switzerland 5-2 today to finish third, with every team in the group going through.

The Czechs got off to a flying start and led 3-0 after the first period, before adding one more in the second to make it difficult for the Swiss to come back.

Switzerland did score twice in the third period but it was not enough as the Czech Republic leapfrogged them in the standings and caused them to fall to fourth.

Hosts Canada had already won the group with a 100 per cent record in front of the United States, with Japan finishing fifth after losing all their matches but still going through.

In Group B, Sweden eased past France 8-2 to finish third, with only the top three in this group advancing.

Hannah Olsson scored four of the goals and finished the game with seven points.

France were outclassed throughout the tournament and finished with an 0-4 record, which has relegated them to the second division for 2024.

Hungary lost 2-1 to Germany in the other Group B match and are also relegated after ending fourth.

With their win, Germany finished second and avoided relegation themselves.

In the quarter-finals, first seed in Group A Canada will continue their bid for a third consecutive title as they face Sweden.

Germany will face last year's runners-up the US.

Finland, who won Group B with a 100 per cent record, will play Czech Republic, and Switzerland will meet Japan.

Switzerland edged Japan 4-3 in a group match yesterday.
