Trinidad and Tobago's Sports Minister Shamfa Cudjoe has claimed that the Hasely Crawford Stadium will be ready for the country's hosting of the Commonwealth Youth Games by June.

Trinbago 2023 is set to take place from August 4 to 11, and is due to be the third edition of the event.

Cudjoe said that the readiness of the Games venue was moving along "quite nicely".

"We are supporting the Trinidad and Tobago Commonwealth Games Association, we are providing the funding and giving to them whatever support they need that is within our budget as it pertains to our agreement and I'd like to say, so far so good," she said, as reported by Newsday.

"We welcome the world.

"We want Trinidad and Tobago to be a part of all this excitement."

Originally, athletics was set to be held at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago before being moved to the Hasely Crawford Stadium which boasts a capacity of 22,575.

It was built in Port of Spain in 1982 as the national stadium and renamed in 1996 to honour the Montreal 1976 100 metres champion.

He was the first person from the country to win an Olympic gold medal.

The venue is sometimes used by the Trinidadian national football teams, while it also hosted the final of the 2001 FIFA Under-17 World Championship and four games at the 2010 FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup.

The Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago gave Cudjoe a completion time of the third week in June.

She added that they are considering the Buccoo Integrated Facility in Tobago to be the ending point for the triathlon.

There are also hopes that the Tobago House of Assembly is considering building a facility for beach sports in Courland in time to host the beach volleyball competitions at the Games.

Athletes are set to stay at the Hyatt Regency and Radisson Hotel in Port of Spain, Mount Irvine Bay Resort, the Magdalena Grand and Comfort Inn in Tobago, and Cara Hotels in Claxton Bay.
