Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) held a safe sport policy seminar recently to educate youth "to practice and enjoy sports in a safe environment".

The seminar was held with support from Olympic Solidarity and the Athletes' Commission and Gender Equity Committee of BOC.

Facilitators Tshering Wangmo and Umang Rai conducted the seminar with 16 safeguarding officers from different National Federations attending.

The safe sport policy of the BOC was developed in 2020, with HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuk, BOC President and International Olympic Committee member instructing them on the initiative.

"As we promote sports and build a vibrant, inclusive sports culture in Bhutan, it is imperative that our youth and sports enthusiasts be able to practice and enjoy sports in a safe environment," Wangchuk stated in the safe sport policy guidelines.

The participants of the seminar are also studying an IOC safeguarding certification course.

Upon completion, the group will become the first IOC-certified safeguarding officers in Bhutan.

The BOC Gender Equity Committee also launched and distributed safe sport advocacy posters to all those who attended the seminar.

The BOC was created and recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1983.
