After winning the 500 metres on Friday, the American teenager added the 1000m gold to his tally in Heerenveen.

Stolz clocked 1min 07.11sec for the title, beating Olympic champion Thomas Krol of The Netherlands.

Krol settled for silver in 1:07.78, while bronze went to Cornelius Kersten of Britain.

Kersten clocked 1:08.02, helping Britain win a first international speed skating medal since 1951.

"I think it was almost perfect," Stolz said.

"Like 99 percent, maybe there's one thing that could have been done better.

"On the backstretch, I kind of went a little wide after entering the draft [behind Hein Otterspeer], and I chased him a little bit."

Jutta Leerdam of The Netherlands upgraded from her Olympic silver to win the women's 1000m world title in 1:13.03.

Her compatriot Antoinette Rijpma de Jong was the silver medallist after clocking 1:14.26, while Beijing 2022 gold medallist Miho Takagi of Japan settled for bronze in 1:14.37.

The men's mass start saw Belgian Bart Swings take the title, becoming the first from his nation to win a World Championships gold.     

The European and Olympic champion clocked 7:30.99 for the victory, followed by Bart Hoolwerf of The Netherlands finishing second in 7:31.05.

Bronze went to Italian Andrea Giovannini, who timed 7:31.09 for his first world medal.

Home favourite Marijke Groenewoud won the women's mass start in 8:19.36 with silver going to Ivanie Blondin of Canada.               

Groenewoud's compatriot Irene Schouten garbbed the final podium place, crossing the finish line in 8:34.37.

The World Championships is scheduled to finish tomorrow with the men's and women's 1,500m, women's 5,000m and men's 10,000m races.
