The Swiss Olympic Federal Council has ruled that financial support of sporting organisations will be linked to their commitment to ethics.

The umbrella association of Swiss sport and the Swiss National Olympic Committee today announced the move as it approved a revision of the Ordinance on the Promotion of Sport.

This revision to the Ordinance also means that the independent national reporting service will be enshrined in law and a quota of men and women will be introduced in governing bodies of national sports organisations.

Jürg Stahl, President of Swiss Olympic said: "A major concern of Swiss Olympic and its member federations is to have fair and safe sport - in all sports, at all ages and at all levels - and this adaptation of the Ordinance on the Promotion of Sport will contribute to this."

Among recent moves by Swiss Olympic to invest in the field of ethics are the establishment of a national reporting service, and the introduction by the Sport Parliament of the Ethical Statutes for Swiss Sport.

As part of the Ethics in Swiss Sport project, Swiss Olympic developed a new common understanding of ethics in Swiss sport, alongside the Federal Office of Sport OFSPO and various other experts.

Regarding the quotas of men and women within governing bodies of sports organisations, a 40 per cent quota has been integrated into the revision of the Ordinance on the Promotion of Sport.

Stahl added that Swiss Olympic would work to implement measures and guidelines set out in the Ordinance on the Promotion of Sport.

"I am sure that Swiss sport is seizing the development opportunities offered by the new Ordinance on the Promotion of Sport and will take advantage of them," he said.
