Russian artistic swimmer Mariia Nemchinova has been given a suspension for an anti-doping rule violation until May 2024, with a disqualification of results dating back to 2014, meaning she will lose her gold medal won at the Baku 2015 European Games.

A backdated test from July 8 2014 was confirmed by World Aquatics.

"Nemchinova was disqualified until May 18 2024 for an anti-doping rule violation dated July 8 2014," the organisation said in a statement.

"All the athlete's results achieved between July 8 2014 and May 19 2022 were cancelled."

Only Nemchinova is to lose her medals in any teams she was a part of, as confirmed by World Aquatics.

World Aquatics confirmed to insidethegames that Nemchinova was serving a period of ineligibility for the use of a prohibited method, running from May 19 2022 through to May 18 2024.

Nemchinova was a member of the synchronised swimming team that won the 2015 European Games.

Now 25, the swimmer - who seems to be inactive - will not be able to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games due to missing squads and qualification, assuming Russia are able to compete at the Games.

Nemchinova won two gold medals at the 2016 World Junior Artistic Swimming Championships and a silver at the 2014 edition, which she is set to lose too.
