Ju-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF) director general Joachim Thumfart has met with leading Chinese officials to discuss the development of the sport in the country.

The German official discussed ju-jitsu with China's Deputy Minister of Sport Zhou Jinqiang and members of the China Jiu-Jitsu Council.

The meeting focused on ways in which the JJIF and China can work together on the promotion and development of ju-jitsu.

This marks the latest move to develop the sport in China.

Last month, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Jiu-Jitsu Federation and China's Generations Fund signed an agreement to support the Chinese team at their home Asian Games in Hangzhou next year.

As well as Hangzhou 2022, this link is also set to cover the Chengdu 2025 World Games.

It is hoped that this can lead to a strengthening of sporting ties between the UAE and China, and expand ju-jitsu's fanbase in China.

Ju-jitsu made its Asian Games debut at Jakarta-Palembang 2018, although China did not win a medal.

It is also on the programme for this year's Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Bangkok and Chonburi.
