A 15-month doping suspension for Russia’s Pavel Moroz has been confirmed by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

The case was one of several uncovered as a result of evidence obtained by the World Anti-Doping Agency from the Laboratory Information Management System database at its accredited laboratory in Moscow.

Moroz’s case for the stimulant trimetazidine resulted from sample taken during an in-competition test in April 2014 during the Russian National Volleyball Championships.

The player accepted the finding and has been banned from January 1 this year until March 31 in 2023.

"The case is part of investigations that the FIVB started after the World Anti-Doping Agency provided data and doping test samples collected from the Moscow Laboratory," the International Federation said in a statement on its website.

"The FIVB is committed to protecting clean sport and clean athletes and maintains a zero-tolerance approach to doping."

This is the second doping suspension for the 35-year-old Moroz, who represented Russia between 2012 and 2015.

In October 2018 tested positive for cocaine during the Russian Championship.

Moroz denied the allegations but was banned for 18 months.

Last month it was announced that 2012 Olympic gold medallist Aleksandr Butko was to serve a one-year suspension after a sample he gave in 2014 tested positive for trimetazidine, a substance similar to meldonium.

His suspension is also due to end on March 31.

It had been revealed by insidethegames in September that both players were under investigation.

Last year, another Russian player Dmitriy Muserskiy was banned for nine months after admitting a doping violation eight-years earlier.

The banned substance methylhexaneamine - a stimulant which can increase blood flow - was found in Muserskiy's sample collected in-competition at the Russian National Championships in May 2013.

Muserskiy helped Russia win a European Championship just four months later, and was also a member of the Olympic gold medal-winning team at London 2012.

Muserskiy's nine-month ban came into force on April 5 in 2021 and ended on January 4 this year.
