The World Muaythai Celebration is set to begin today and run until Monday (December 5) with the event being held in remembrance of the late King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej.

It is set to take place in Bangkok's Icon Siam and is being held in collaboration with the Sport Authority of Thailand, the National Sports Development Fund, the Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand, and the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA).

The event starts with an opening gala which will feature multiple performances including the muaythai live performance troupe and a Thai fashion show.

The next day is said to support the grassroots development of the sport.

"The muaythai youth will come together to showcase all the traditional and cultural aspects of muaythai from wai kru, muay kita, muay boran and krabi krabong and youth competition," read an IFMA statement.

An official weigh-in will also take place prior to the main event on the final day.

The festival will culminate with 15 elite-level muaythai bouts to celebrate Father's Day and the birthday of Adulyadej.

Adulyadej ruled Thailand from 1946 until his death on October 13 2016.

Selected athletes will also be presented with trophies donated by the current King and Queen of the nation.

The event is set to be livestreamed on the IFMA website.
