The Les Pyramides sports centre in Voisins-le-Bretonneux has been selected as a preparation site for table tennis at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Situated 30 kilometres west of Paris, the facility hosted the French Open Para table tennis tournament last year with Paralympic champions from Tokyo involved.  

The site is expected to welcome international sports delegations as part of their preparations for the Games in two years’ time.

Mayo Alexandra Rosetti confirmed the development on the municipality’s website.

"We are happy to be able to participate on our scale in the adventure of the Olympic Games," Rosetti was quoted as saying by Le Parisien.

"The decision of the Olympic Committee is a great recognition of our know-how, adds the elected official.

"We are proud that the strengths and quality of our sports equipment are highlighted to foreign delegations."

Built almost 40 years ago, the faciltity has been renovated to make it more accessible to people with reduced mobility.

It also served as a vaccination centre during the pandemic.

Several preparation centres for the Games have been planned in the areas surrounding Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines with track cycling and BMX set to be in Montigny-le-Bretonneux.

Mountain biking has been planned for Élancourt hill, golf in Guyancourt and modern pentathlon in the park of Château de Versailles.
