The 22-year-old stormed to victory in the men's horizontal bar final for the third US gold at the M&S Bank Arena in what had been billed as a two-horse race between the most recent all-around champions Daiki Hashimoto of Japan and China's Zhang Boheng.

Malone became his country's first high bar world champion since 1979 with a score of 14.800 to beat Hashimoto by 0.100 while Arthur Mariano of Brazil won bronze with 14.466 points.

The result meant that the US finished with three golds, four silvers, and one bronze medal.

Despite Zou Jingyuan's 16.166-point triumph in the men's parallel bars final, China had to settle for second overall with three golds and two silvers.

The Olympic champion opted to raise the difficulty of his routine which helped to put him clear of Germany's Lukas Dauser and Carlos Yulo of the Philippines who finished on 15.500 and 15.366, respectively.

Jessica Gadirova's women's floor victory with 14.200 points clinched Britain's best-ever performance at the World Championships.

The hosts finished with two golds, one silver, and three bronze medals, which meant they surpassed their five-medal tally from Glasgow 2015.

On the podium, Gadirova was joined by silver medallist American Jordan Chiles who scored 13.833 points, while Brazilian Rebeca Andrade and Jade Carey of the United States shared bronze with 13.733 points.

Japan's Hazuki Watanabe produced a shock performance to win women's balance beam gold with 13.600 points while Canadian Elisabeth Black and compatriot Shoko Miyata claimed silver and bronze with scores of 13.566 and 13.533 points respectively.

Watanabe was originally not due to compete at the event but was drafted in to cover an injury withdrawal.

Artur Davtyan earned Armenia's maiden World Championships gold in the men's vault with an average of 15.050 points.

His total relegated reigning champion Yulo to second, with 0.1 separating the two, while Ukrainian Igor Radivilov's 14.733 clinched bronze.
