The majority of those came in open water swimming following the completion of the men’s and women’s five-kilometre races at the recent International Swimming Federation World Championships in Budapest.

A total of 31 nations sealed at least one of the 54 qualification places available including Brazil and Germany thanks to victories from Ana Marcela Cunha and Florian Wellbrock respectively in the Hungarian capital.

Germany has secured a spot in the men’s event along with Italy, Ukraine, France, Hungary, Australia, the United States, Greece, Colombia, Japan, China, Turkey, Brazil, Austria, Chinese Taipei, South Africa, Ecuador, Kazakhstan, Angola, Czech Republic and Serbia.

Among the other nations to earn places in the women’s event include France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, The Netherlands, Japan, the US, Hungary, Hong Kong, China, Israel, South Africa, Czech Republic, Turkey, China, Canada, South Korea, Peru, New Zealand, Seychelles and Slovenia.

Croatia and Germany captured the respective men’s and women’s titles at the recent Beach Handball World Championships in Crete in Greek to ensure spots at next year’s World Beach Games.

Denmark, Greece and Qatar joined Croatia in qualifying for the men’s event.

Spain, The Netherlands, Greece and Denmark also claimed places following their performances in the women’s competition won by Germany.

The remaining six places per gender are expected to determined by results in the continental championships, with one additional spot in both the men’s and women’s due to go to the host country.

Qualification in karate was based on last November’s World Championships in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Athletes from Japan, Spain, Italy, Turkey, the US and Switzerland sealed places from the men’s competition.

In the women’s category, athletes from Spain, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Italy, Egypt and the US secured quotas.

A further 10 places per gender are set to be awarded following the continental championships and another 10 in the men’s and women’s categories based on World Karate Federation rankings as of June 12 next year.

"It is fantastic to already see 36 NOCs [National Olympic Committees] qualify places for the ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023," said ANOC Acting President Robin Mitchell.

"The ANOC World Beach Games is unique in how it combines elite sport and beach culture on a global scale.

"The qualification systems are vital in ensuring as many NOCs as possible are represented at the Games while still maintaining the highest sporting standards.

"Qualification across all the sports at the ANOC World Beach Games will continue over the next 12 months and we are very excited to see how many NOCs qualify to compete in Bali next year."

Bali was selected as host of the second edition of the World Beach Games last month.

It is due to stage the event from August 5 to 12 next year.

A host of qualification events are set to be held over the coming months, including in beach wrestling, triathlon, beach tennis and beach soccer.
