O'Caoimh lines up in the men's open wakeboard competition at the multi-sport event, as compatriot Nicole Carroll competes in the women's event in Qatar's capital city.

The duo will join 1,237 athletes from 97 countries in Doha, between Saturday (October 12) and October 16.

O'Caoimh has been a professional wakeboarder for six years and trains alongside Carroll at Lough Sillan in his native Cavan.

The 19-year-old Carroll is the Irish number one and finished fifth at the 2018 European Championships.

"It's great that Ireland can be part of this historical event," said Linda O'Reilly, Ireland's Chef de Mission for the Games.

"ANOC are very keen to showcase beach sports to the world - and are using this inaugural Games to engage with a new audience and to showcase the sports stars and achievements of these sports.

"I'm excited about working with a new sport in wakeboarding. 

"David and Nicole are pros and have been competing on the international circuit for years. 

"They are ready and looking forward to the competition."

The wakeboarding qualifiers take place on Sunday (October 13), with the finals the following day.

The ANOC World Beach Games include a total of 14 disciplines in 13 sports, with action split between the Katara and Al Gharafa venues.
