Bahrain's Alemu Bekele and Poland's Iwona Lewandowska won the men's and women's marathons respectively on the final day of the CISM World Military Games in Mungyeong.

The marathons were the only events to take place today as the Games in the South Korean city came to a close, with Ethiopian born Bekele, an Asian Games gold medallist over 10,000 metres in 2013, coming out on top with a time of 2 hours, 15 minutes and seven seconds.

Poland's Marcin Chabowski followed him for the silver medal in a time of 2:15.37 and Kenya's Linus Chumba was the bronze medallist in 2:16.51.

Another Kenyan, William Chebor, just missed out on a medal as he came fourth in 2:17.00 with Henryk Szost of Poland further back in fifth with a time of 2:17.43.

Chabowski and Szost's contributions were key to Poland winning the overall team title with a combined time of 6:51.23, ahead of the Ecuador team which clocked 7:07.23.

The Kenyans did enough for bronze with a time of 7:08.00.

Meanwhile, Lewandowska's winning time was 2:31.25 as she edged out China's Ma Yugui, who timed in at 2:31.40, for the gold medal.

Poland claimed another medal with Monika Stefanowicz's 2:32.20 enough for bronze and earning two spots on the podium meant the country completed a double in the team competition with an overall time of 7:41.32.

China were the silver medallists in 7:52.09 with the United States third in 8:49.05.
