fenc small pic compressedAugust 9 - China continued to lead the way on day three of the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) World Fencing Championships in Budapest as they won three of the four available titles, but Russia's Alexander Logutenko foiled their clean-sweep ambitions with his second gold medal of the week.

Logutenko won an épée gold on day two and he was similarly dominant in the foil division as he outclassed fellow Russian Sergey Barinov 15-4 in a one-sided final.

William Russo of Italy took one of the two available bronze medals with the other going to another Russian in Nikolay Lukyanov - who consequently ensured that his country finished on all three steps of the podium.

Elsewhere, however, it was another day of Chinese domination as there were foil wins for London 2012 gold medallist Ruyi Ye in category-A and Daoling Hu in category-B after an earlier success for sabre athlete Jing Bian in the only women's event of the day.

The foil athletes were divided into three different categories - category A for athletes with minimal disabilities, category B athletes who have a more severe lower limb dysfunction and category C for athletes with high level disabilities and limited hand function.

In category A the final pitted Ye against Hungarian crowd favourite Richard Osvath but it was the Paralympic champion from China who ultimately prevailed to win 15-7.

Hu was similarly comfortable in the category B final as he defeated Anton Datsko of Ukraine, while Belarus' Nikolai Bezyachny and Russia's Marat Yusupov took the bronze medals.

Jing won China's third title in the only category for female sabre fencers, with the world number 14 defying her ranking to beat another Ukranian runner-up in Natalia Morkvych.

Ukraine earned their third medal of the day with bronze for Yevheniia Breus, while Cat Bouwkamp of the United States was the other third-place finisher.
