July 30 - vounteers 2013Organisers of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Trentino 2013 Winter Universiade have received more 1,800 applications from people looking to become volunteers at the Games which are due take place from December 11 to 21.

The Trentino 2013 Volunteers Recruitment Campaign was launched earlier this year with the aim of recruiting around 1,500 volunteers for the Games, which were awarded to the Italian province by FISU in March 2012, following the governing body's decision to strip original hosts Maribor of the event due to fears over delays and a lack of funding from the Slovenian Government.

Applications to become a volunteer at Trentino 2013 were received from residents of the Northern Italian province, other parts of Italy and even from abroad.

Volunteers will be organised into specific teams that will provide support to athletes and international delegations.

There will also be teams responsible for communication and marketing, safety and access control, catering, accreditation control, IT support, hospitality and welcome services and press duties.

Other groups will be involved in the Opening and Closing ceremonies, as well as being facilitators during events over the ten days.

A total of 13 sports will be contested across seven venues during the 26th staging of the Winter Universiade which was last held in Italy in 2007, when 2006 Winter Olympic Games' host Turin staged the Games.
