david weir_15-02-12February 13 - David Weir (pictured), double Paralympic gold medallist at Bejing four years ago, is aiming to compete in four events at the London 2012 Paralympics – but he will be satisfied with one more gold.

"I will be taking part in four events, and my target is a gold," he told insideworldparasport.

"Although there are four chances to win, you would have to be stupid that that means four gold medals."

Weir two gold, one silver and one bronze at Beijing in 2008, crossing the line first in the 800 and 1500 metres.

The medals added to the silver and bronze he won at Athens in 2004.

"I'm in London, and it could be my last Paralympics, and I just want to be standing on top of the podium there," Weir said.

"If I get one gold from one of my four races I will be a happy man."

David Weir_in_BMWWeir (pictured right) was taking part in a press launch for BMW Presents – a series of films based on BMW Performance Team athletes and Weir that look at what it takes to deliver the ultimate performance.

He is hoping to do that on home soil and he echoes last week's comments by the Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, that the Paralympics are going to be the surprise package of London 2012.

"I think it is going to be the biggest show for this country," he said.

"Because we do so well.

"I think the general public has started to realise that we are going to be up the top of the medals table, probably higher than the Olympic team.

"But it's my job to train hard and race well.

"That is going to be my main contribution.

I'm used to racing under pressure.

"I'm expected to win the London Marathon every year.

"That's what you have to deal with."

Weir will be competing in the Lisbon half marathon next month as a warm up to his challenge to win a sixth London Marathon title on April 22 before competing in the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester in May.

Weir features in BMW Presents, a series of short films that celebrate the BMW London 2012 Performance Team and explore Ultimate Performance. To view the films, click here.
