April 5 - Lord Salisbury (pictured right), the former Leader  of the House of Lords and one of Britain's most influential politicians, has become the patron of Hertfordshire Is Ready for Winners Partnership, the group which works to maximise the opportunities and benefits that the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics will bring to the county.

April 3 - The Iranian Olympic Committee has called on Muslim states around the world to protest to FIFA and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after the country's women's football team were banned were from wearing the hijab at this year's  inaugural Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
