do-you-know will be reporting daily from the African Sambo Championships which start tomorrow?

Being held in Victoria, Seychelles, the competition runs from Friday until next Sunday, May 14, and we will be bringing you ALL the action at the end of each day.

The event will be another opportunity for this Soviet martial art and combat sport to demonstrate how fast it is growing internationally as it continues to strive for recognition by the International Olympic Committee.

The word "SAMBO" is an acronym for SAMozashchita Bez Oruzhiya, which literally translates as "self-defence without weapons".

Seychelles joined the African Confederation of Sambo in 2013 and this is the first time they have hosted these Championships.
The Seychelles Minister for Youth, Sports and Culture Idith Alexander has been personally overseeing the preparations for the African Sambo Championships.
