The 28-year-old Harry Potter look-alike had won the normal hill a week ago when he collected the first gold medal of these Games.

He had also won both titles at the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002.

Ammann said: "Everything has just worked so well.

"It's unbelievable."

The Swiss has solidified his role as the most successful winter Olympics athlete of all time for Switzerland.

In the realm of ski jumping, only Finnish great Matti Nykänen is more decorated with four golds and one silver.

But his tally included the team large hill at Calgary in 1988.

Even complaints from his Austrian rivals could not take the gloss off Ammann's victory.

They have claimed that modifications to his bindings allow him to jump more aggressively and have given him an advantage.

They asked skiing's governing body, the International Ski Federation (FIS), to investigate whether the Swiss was using legal equipment.

Ammann said: "I am an Olympic champion because I am the best jumper, not because I have this equipment."



The FISS  dismissed the complaints.

Ammann said: "We didn't expect anything else.

"We knew it was within the regulations.

"The system has been used within the last two years and other guys have used it from Austria as well."

Ammann recorded jumps of 144  and 138 metres for a total of 283.6 points to beat off Poland's Adam Malysz, who jumped 137m and 133.5m for 269.4, and Austria's Gregor Schlierenzauer, 130.5m and 136m for 262.2.

But Schlierenzauer appeared to have no complaints about the result.

He said: "Simon is just amazing."
