Iranian taekwondo athlete Reza Kalhor has been provisionally suspended after failing a drugs test.

Kalhor, winner of a bronze medal in the under-68 kilograms division at last year's World Championships in Guadalajara, tested positive for anabolic androgenic steroids, World Taekwondo said.

His provisional suspension began on May 11.

World Taekwondo told insidethegames that it was an "ongoing case" and no other information was available.

Kalhor lost to Britain's Olympic silver medallist Bradly Sinden in the semi-finals in Guadalajara, after taking the first round.

In April, he won gold at the open qualification tournament for the World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series Final in Wuxi.

He then went on to win bronze at the final itself.

Kalhor was the gold medallist in the under-72kg division at last year's World Junior Championships in Sofia.

He also won the 2022 Asian junior title in Ho Chi Minh City and currently sits 15th in World Taekwondo's under-68kg rankings.
