Water-skier Martin Labra has been named as the World Games Athlete of the Month for April, even though for the second month running they have given it for a performance that actually happened in February.

The 17-year-old scored 12,060 points at the Miranda Record tournament on February 24, which took place on Lago Los Morros in his home country of Chile.

In April, this was ratified as a trick world record in the under-17 class by the International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF).

Labra is also the 2022 IWWF world under-17 jump and overall champion, and the world under-17 overall world record holder.

He represented Chile at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham in Alabama, finishing sixth in the trick ski competition as Adam Pickos of the United States won gold.

The teenager can now set his sights on the 2025 World Games in Chendgu in China, as water-skiing was confirmed for the sports programme last week.

Labra takes over as athlete of the month from Belgium's squash player Tinne Gilis.

The Birmingham 2022 World Games gold medallist in the women's singles was named as the winner of the prize for March when, again, her performance had actually taken place in February.
