Mujibillo Tursunov ensured that hosts Uzbekistan had their first win at the International Boxing Association (IBA) Men’s World Boxing Championships here.

Pitted against Varinder Singh of India, in the 60 kilograms category, Tursunov registered a dominant 5-0 win over Singh to open the account for the hosts.

However, Singh’s compatriot Mohammad Hussamuddin, a two-time Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, made up for it by cruising past Alen Rustemovski of Macedonia by the same scoreline in the 57kg class.

Belarus lost the first bout of the event as Artur Tuniyeu went down to Italian Francesco Iozia in the 57kg class.

Iozia triumphed 4-1 to before teammate Michele Baldassi edged Frenchman Riad Labidi 4-3.

Ilie Argatu of Republic of Moldova and Abdoul Karim Bathily of Mali started the day in ring A in the 57kg class.  

Bathily took round one against the junior European champion Argatu.

While Bathily was on the front foot from the beginning, Argatu did well to make it 2-2 before a series of strong punches secured the round 3-2 for the former.

In ring B, Marvin Martinez Hernandez was the first to the ring, representing El Salvador, and won by the same score against Nawwaf Alzahmi of the United Arab Emirates. 

Flyweight bouts continued with Jean Caicedo of Ecuador dominating Oluwatoyin Kukoyi Wahab of Nigeria.

The South American's fast movements and shuffle helped him secure a 5-0 unanimous decision victory.

Meanwhile, Iranian Pourya Abdolmalekijeraei also won by a 5-0 unanimous decision against Kagoetsile Raokgwathile from Botswana.

Two more unanimous decision wins were recorded as Roland Veres of Hungary and Jordanian Yousef Iashash defeated Holy Yosua Masihor of Indonesia and Shudai Harada of Japan, respectively.

Bahrain, Colombia, China and Mexico were victorious in the over-92kg category.

Danabieke Bayikewuzi of China did not have to work hard against Croatian Luka Pratljačić who went down 4-1 before Mexican Javier Cruz dominated ju tae-ung 5-0.

In the ring, Tokyo 2020 Olympian Danis Latypov of Bahrain powered past Baky Toýçyýew of Turkmenistan via RSC-I.

The final match in the over-92kg class saw a knockout as Pan American Games silver medallist Cristian Salcedo of Colombia beat John Lavulo of Tonga.

Two Asian countries and two European countries tasted victory in the heavyweight category.

Jordanian Ahmad Al-Teimat was a cut above Eldar Guliyev of Azerbaijan, winning 4-0.

Asian and Youth Olympic champion Aibek Oralbay of Kazakhstan demolished Bulgarian Radoslav Pantaleev 5-0.

In the European wins, Andrei Zaplitni of the Republic of Mooldova downed Youssef Lazar of Germany 5-0 while Soheb Bouafia of France also won by the same score agaisnt Vagkan Nanitzanian of Greece.
