More than 6,000 children and their families celebrated the 31st anniversary of Healthy Kids Day by taking part in fun activities in Los Angeles as the Californian city continues preparations to host the Olympic Games for a third time.

A team from the Los Angeles 2028 Organising Committee were among those present at the event, looking to increase excitement about the staging the Olympics and Paralympics in the Californian city in five years’ time.

The free annual event was held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which staged the Opening and Closing Ceremony at the 1932 and 1984 Olympics and is due to host the athletics competition at the 2028 Games.

Los Angeles 2028 joined other sporting organisations, including basketball clubs LA Clippers and LA Sparks, football outfit LA Galaxy, American football team LA Rams and the United States Tennis Association, in delivering a fun-filled programme for participants.

Children got the chance to enjoy a series of sporting activities, including rock climbing, virtual reality games and an escape room.

The aim of the event, run by YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, was to promote healthy lifestyles and connect families to resources that support wellness.

"Thank you for being part of such a heart-warming day, and we hope you had so much fun," a statement from the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles read.

"Together with your support, the event strengthens local communities by promoting healthy lifestyles, creating a safe place to engage in fun activities, and connecting families to resources that support wellness."
