The national governing body said the changes were part of its "ongoing cultural transformation" which began when a new Board of Directors were elected five years ago in the wake of the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal.

The organisation’s visual rebranding started last August with a new logo and has now gone live with phase one of a new website.

"We are so pleased to share the fresh new look and feel of our website," said Li Li Leung, President and chief executive of USA Gymnastics.

"As the gateway to the sport for so many people, our website should celebrate athletes and convey the fun and excitement of the entire gymnastics community.

"We look forward to making the website even more interactive in the months ahead."

USA Gymnastics said the website redesign looks to further reinforce its "athlete-centred approach" by emphasising athlete photos, videos and content that is relevant to general fans as well as the gymnastics community.

Mobile optimisation, an embedded search function and simplified navigation are among the notable functional improvements that have been made to the website.

Aesthetic changes include a complete overhaul of the look of the site through colours, imagery and fonts.

Further developments are scheduled throughout the year, with phase two of the project due to include ongoing functional fixes, additional branding and creative elements, and honing of search algorithms.

As well as the website redesign, USA Gymnastics has changed the names of its department focused on athlete safety to "USA Gymnastics Safety & Response".

Formerly called USA Gymnastics Safe Sport, the new name aims to provide clarity between the differing functions of USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Center for SafeSport.

USA Gymnastics insisted the change "does not impact the functions, processes or requirements involved in safety-related matters".

USA Gymnastics Safety & Response is expected to continue to work to educate members about athlete safety best practices, handling most reports regarding physical and emotional abuse.

The U.S. Center for SafeSport oversees national safe sport training and has jurisdiction over all sexual abuse reports in Olympic sport, as well as other reports it elects to adjudicate.

USA Gymnastics filed for bankruptcy in 2018 following numerous lawsuits being filed in the wake of the Nassar scandal.

The disgraced doctor sexually abused hundreds of athletes while working as a USA Gymnastics team doctor.

Nassar is serving several effective life sentences having been convicted of numerous sex crimes.

USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee reached a $380 million (£288 million/€336 million) settlement with survivors in December 2021.
