Nine riders progressed through the first round to the jump off at the Campo Marte in Chapultepec Park.

Will on the horse My Prins van Dorperheide completed the course with no penalties in a quick time of 43.16sec, and it was enough to claim a famous victory.

"My horse made it easy for me today, he jumped unbelievable today in front of this incredible crowd," Will said.

"They were cheering everyone on.

"The horse already deserved to win last week in Miami, but I made a mistake to the last fence in the jump-off so I am thrilled I made up for it today.

"It is just so fun and a pleasure to ride here."

Will has secured a place at the Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix in Czech Republic's capital Prague in November, along with his compatriot Katrin Eckermann and Philipp Weishaupt who won on Miami Beach and in Doha respectively.

Sweden's Olympic team jumping champion Malin Baryard-Johnsson pushed Will closest in Mexico City with a faultless jump-off, but had to settle for second in 43.57 on H&M Indiana.

Laura Kraut of the United States aboard Baloutinue placed third in 44.26 with no faults.

Belgium's Olympic team bronze medallist Pieter Devos was the only other rider who went fault-free in the jump off on Mom's Toupie de la Roque, but had to settle for fourth in 46.88.

Mexico's home favourite Eugenio Garza Pérez on Contago finished quicker than Will, but had to settle for ninth with eight faults.

Spain's capital Madrid is due to host the next leg of the 2023 season from May 12 to 14.
