Neutral athletes from Russia continued their domination of the European Sambo Championships as they secured 15 gold medals in the cadets finals at the Romema Sports Arena in Haifa.

Emin Amirkhanov picked up the first title for the team whose athletes have been allowed to compete in the Israeli city under the International Sambo Federation (FIAS) flag.

He downed Belarusian Andrei Selivanau, of the second neutral squad, in the men's under-46-kilograms final.

Armenia's Samvel Danielyan and Saba Bolkvadze of Georgia joined them on the podium as they secured the bronze medals.

Ismail Makhozhev was the only neutral Russian to be subjected to a silver medal in the men's events as he was soundly beaten by Narek Simonyan of Armenia in the under-53kg class.

Toghrul Karimli of Azerbaijan and Greek Andreas Sarakanidis bagged bronze medals to round out the podium.

Georgia's Giorgi Gelashvili also prevailed, in the under-88kg gold medal-match over Belarusian Yauheni Klimasheuski while Azeri Huseyn Huseynli and neutral Russian Tigran Stepanyan did enough for bronze.

In the women's events there was just one non-Russian champion in the nine weight categories.

Germany's Salome Steinbrunner prevented a clean sweep as she got the better of Miroslava Vdovenko in the under-65kg final.

They were joined in the medal positions by joint third-place finishers Anamaria Rus of Romania and Serbian Nadja Grlica.

Competition is set to continue tomorrow with the finals of the youth tournaments before the Closing Ceremony.
