Joseph Saimei, a two-time Pacific Games super-heavyweight boxing champion and an Ambassador of Solomon Islands 2023, took part in the Shortland Island Tour.

The local boxing great visited nine areas of Shortland, his home town, as he advocated the positive impact of sport and raised awareness of this year's Pacific Games, alongside members of the Organising Committee.

He shared his sporting experiences to inspire local athletes to pursue their dream.

"I am very grateful and so proud to go on this Ambassadors tour back to my people, in my homeland, the Shortland Islands," said Saimei.

"Being recognised by the Pacific Games as an Ambassador for Sol2023 is indeed something to be proud of.

To be able to share my knowledge and experiences about boxing, inspire and encourage young aspiring boxers to pursue their dreams, and work hard toward achieving it - become boxing champions in the future."

The areas visited were Nuhu, Maleai, Pirumeri, Tuha, Nila, Samanago, Toumoa, Koliai, and Gaomai.

Fellow Ambassadors Chris Votu, Primo Higa, Batram Suri, Timothy Inifiri, Hellen Saohanga, Jenly Wini, Junior Benjamin and Jay Makana are scheduled to go out on tour, as the build-up to the Games continues, while earlier this month fellow Ambassador Jim Marau, the 1975 South Pacific Games gold medallist in the men's 100 metres toured communities in Central, North and North East Guadalcanal.

The Solomon Islands 2023 Pacific Games are scheduled to take place from November 19 to December 2 in the capital Honiara, as 24 nations compete in 24 sports.
