World and Olympic champions Sweden preserved their unbeaten record at the World Men's Curling Championship with two emphatic wins on a busy day of competition at TD Place Arena in Ottawa.

Swedish skip Niklas Edin, the four-time defending champion, began the day with an 8-3 success over South Korea before defeating World Championship newcomers Turkey 10-3.

It moved Sweden to a record of five victories and no defeats after three days of play and they are the only team yet to lose.

Norway, led by Magnus Ramsfjell, remain second in the standings despite their first defeat.

They beat New Zealand 9-2 earlier in the day but lost to Switzerland in the final session.

Yannick Swaller's Swiss quartet were always in control and drew away to an unassailable 11-4 lead, scoring three stones in the seventh end to join the Norwegians on a record on won four, lost one.

Japan's Riku Yanagisawa is equal fourth despite his first defeat at the hands of 2006 Olympic gold medallist Brad Gushue and hosts Canada.

Canada pulled away in the seventh end and eventually won 6-3.

Beijing 2022 Olympic silver medallist Bruce Mouat and Scotland are back on track in equal fourth after losing to the Swedes yesterday.

They seemed to be on the way to a comfortable win against Germany when they led 5-0 after four ends, but the Germans recovered to 6-5 before Scotland pulled clear with two stones in the penultimate end for an 8-6 victory.

Last year's bronze medallists Italy won twice on the same day to remain in contention.

They beat the Swiss 8-4 in the morning and ended the day with a 7-2 win over Germany.

After defeats against Norway, Sweden and Japan, the United States beat Czech Republic 10-8 to record their first victory of the tournament.

"Getting a win on the board was huge and hopefully we can string a few together," skip John Shuster, the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic champion, said.

The Americans added an 11-5 win over South Korea later in the day.

The day ended with a dramatic contest between Turkey and the Czech Republic which went the distance.

In the extra end, Czech Republic edged ahead to claim a 7-6 victory.

The chasing group behind Sweden are all in action in the first session of play tomorrow.

Switzerland are scheduled to meet South Korea, while Scotland play the US and Japan meet New Zealand.

The Norwegians play Italy later in the day.

Round robin play continues until Friday (April 7).

The top six in the standings will advance to the play-off stages, with the top two automatically going through to the semi-finals.
