Switzerland were unbeaten heading into the gold medal game at the Goransson Arena and their line-up of lead Briar Schwaller-Huerlimann, second Carole Howald, third and skip Silvana Tirinzoni and fourth player Alina Paetz delivered the goods to ensure they kept hold of their crown.

There was nothing to separate the sides at the midway point of the contest, with the score deadlocked at 2-2.

The teams exchanged singles in ends seven and eight, meaning it was all to play for going into the final two ends of regulation.

In end nine, Switzerland edged in front after Paetz drew to the button with her final stone, managing to score one from a situation where she could have lost three shots.

In the tenth end end Norway’s fourth player Kristin Skaslien had a chance to draw for one and force additional ends, but her stone came up short, enabling Switzerland to steal two and claim the win.

The Norwegian silver medal-winning team consisted of fourth player Skaslien, third and skip Marianne Roervik, second Millie Haslev Nordbye and lead Martine Roenning.

The bronze medal went to the Canadian team of lead Briane Harris, second Shannon Birchard, third Val Sweeting and skip Kerri Einarson after they beat hosts Sweden 8-5.

Canada opened a 6-1 up lead at the halfway point thanks to two doubles and a steal of one in the second end.

Sweden scored two in the sixth end but were not able to complete the turnaround, with Canada securing victory in the final end when their opponents ran out of stones.
