It has invited nominations from World Archery National Federations, continental associations, Executive Board members and gender equity committee members.

The award is to be presented to individuals who have "made a significant impact in ensuring  equal opportunities or effecting meaningful change towards equality, in any role, within the sport of archery."

The award was inaugurated in 2009 when the first recipient was Xiuzhi Zhang, a judge and archery competition manager at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

The award is now to be made irrespective of gender.

"I am happy to announce the relaunch of our new gender equity awards in recognition of International Women's Day," World Archery gender equity chair Yuko Okura said.

"We are proud to celebrate role models and inspirational figures whose positive actions reinforce and ensure the inclusive nature of our sport."

Nominations for the 2023 awards close on May 26 when submissions will be assessed by World Archery's gender equity committee.

The awards will be presented at the World Archery Congress, which is scheduled for July in Berlin to coincide with the World Championships.

Officials have revealed that multiple awards may be given.

World Archery have also announced that a new Equal Opportunities Award will launched in 2025  "to recognise federations that have made significant progress towards gender equity, including in areas of participation, domestically and internationally, and projects that challenge gender bias or discrimination".

Archery had been the first Olympic sport to elect a female President when Inger Frith was chosen to lead the federation in 1961.
